Springfield Initiative for Affordable Homes
An initiative to increase the number of affordable homes available in
Springfield is being launched on January 15th. The first step in the
initiative is to learn from potential home-buyers what features they are
looking for in a home, what people want the neighborhoods to be like,
and how much they want to pay for a home. People who hope to buy a
home within the next few years are asked to come and express their
opinions on January 15th at 5:30 in the Library Meeting Room at City
Hall (225 Fifth Street, Springfield, OR).
The initiative is being conducted by a non-profit community development
organization, NEDCO who is planning on either building new homes or
renovating existing homes. NEDCO has developed over 130 quality
affordable homes that have been sold to families with low to moderate
income levels. Since 1979 NEDCO (Neighborhood Economic Development
Corporation) has been working to improve the economic well being of
individuals, families, and neighborhoods through homeownership
education, building quality affordable homes, neighborhood
revitalization and small business development. NEDCO also operates the
Homeownership Center of Lane County that offers information about
special down payment and loan assistance programs for first time
homebuyers, referrals to weatherization and repair programs, and general
housing referrals.
The Springfield Initiative for Affordable Homes is a chance for future
homebuyers to influence the type of new homes that are developed in
Springfield - and the price ranges for those homes. The opinions and
suggestions of all potential homebuyers are very important and very much
wanted!
Advance registration for the January 15th gathering is helpful, but not
required. Contact NEDCO by calling 345-7106 or by emailing at Contacting Us.
